Personal Statement

I hope that this Statement about myself will be able to demonstrate to you my desire and convince you of my ability’s and hopefully be and ideal student for your course. As a keen student I’m very focused on what i am doing and was very lucky to get some good grades in my GCSE but was very pleased to get a B in French and A* in Art and C in English which made me really proud of that, Ive also had some very different jobs and a lot of job which is said to be leaving behind My first job i started was at Silverdale Scoring for the cricket team which was really good because cricket is one of my favorite hobbies after i did scoring for a good year i moved onto being an Avon Representative which i did for about 3 years with my mum and we went around selling brand which was very successful , whilst i was selling brand i also had another job cleaning at the RSPA which was very good for my age because it was a very challenging when your only 15 but i was working there for about 5 years until i move to grange to get another job at a coffee shop in cartmel which last over a year and because we moved to grange i had to stop the Avon representative because it was two much, as i had three jobs which was the coffee shop, woodland hotel and body shop, after i finished at the coffee shop i started to work at body shop as a Christmas tempt and that job was by far the best job I’ve ever done, now i only have a night job on Sundays working at a restaurant washing up. I have a really good background on hobbies as i’ve been brought up with a very active family so i did a lot of sports when i was younger i started off playing football for dallam school and thought it was getting to much for me because i also played rugby and cricket which i love very much and at the age of 9 i started to play the drum and im still presently playing the drums i also started getting into photography at age of 12 which this is the career i wanted to head into because im a big believer that i will get somewhere in this because i personally believe i can do it.

Getting into level 3 would be a big deal for me as because it will lead me into photography and the art side’s of jobs because im wanting to go to university doing photography but it’ll give me a better chance getting in if i have level 3 on my record, i do have a lot of offer to bring into level 3 and im looking forward to seeing if i do get in and showing people new skills that maybe they don’t know and it’s nice to get to know new people and get new idea’s which we can all share, im hopefully looking forward to getting back in touch with you and seeing what you think.

On Friday i missed the lesson and they were looking for 3 portfolio to us for our final one and i looked at three one which i liked but i ended up with Flickr because it’s very easy to use and it was something I’ve been familiar with for age’s the other two i looked at were  http://carbonmade.com/ and http://www.portfoliobox.net/ but they just didn’t seem right because they didn’t have and app or didn’t really interests me as much because i didn’t know what to do but i liked Flickr because it was easy, quick had a app so i could us it on my ipad and iphone which was so much helpful and it wa easy to sign up and with the others you had a 30 day trail which was really annoying but with Flickr its free and can put as many picture as you like.

 

Jobs in kendal

Today we went into Kendal to look at a load of places that are graphic design and have some art related job roll that young people can get a job. The first one I saw was the Pixel Mills which is something to do with graphic design’s and Photoshop everything about computer’s hence the name pixel (pixel is something that you can zoom right into a picture and a picture is made of pixels) After we looked at that place i was walking and saw a scaffolding company called Cumbria design scaffold which I’m guessing is something in design for scaffolding, down the road from there was the Parkin & Jackson which is a place for gravestone basically graving stone work which is something to do with art because you are craving grave stone heads. We got into town and i didn’t realize how many design company there is in Kendal i knew there was some but not as many as what we saw today there was surely about 20 when we got into town we went to look at tattoo place’s which i would love to work in because the people are so nice and also they need artist for the tattooing, we also found out that Samara tattoo place has one of Kendal college student working there and he actually does the tattooing and he’s only 19! we basically went to look at these place to get idea for the future and to show that loads of people actually get in at a young ages because they have more time to get idea but also are more skilled, after looking at the tattoo places we went onto look at loads of signing company’s which do print making such as shirt making where you put stuff onto a shirt and signing for company and all that stuff it was very boring if i have to be honest but then i thought if i was actually working there i don’t think it would because it’s all art related but there is loads of different type of art related work such as:

• graphic designs
• fashion designs
• signs
• follow design
• food design
• sewing designs
• tattooist
• artist
• photographer

 

Unit 5 & 6: portfolio and jobs in the industry

We are making two portfolio one is a physical one which is were you put it in a book and show it personally and the other one is online so it means it’ll be on a website just showing you online which is pretty cool After we sort out all of our portfolio we will then have a interview and because I’m wanting to do level 3 I’ll be having a interview for that which is crazy so I’m planing for my interview for level 3. The reason why we are doing this is because of jobs in the future and what are we wanting to do so like I’m wanting to do photography so my portfolio will be mostly of photos and some drawings i do because i like drawing as well but my drawing imagination is very creepy so i probably wont put them in but it’s mostly be photography as i want to do this in the future and get a job. The reason we are doing this is because we are getting a feel of what it would be like to be in a interview and to make a portfolio to help us in the future

New project

This morning we started to learn about our portfolio and these people from a big company came in to talk to us about the graphic designs about things and the the girl who is Laura Smith she actually came to Kendal college and wanted to get into a job with design and she didn’t start of with what she wanted to do but she went into university and did graphic design and then worked in a hotel cleaning rooms but she didn’t want to do that so she out herself out there and actually did something with her life that he wanted to enjoy, so she went around with her CV and ended up finding Ian Ireland and he actually got her a job with him being a graphic designer and she’ now re-branding. Ian Ireland himself didn’t have the experience of doing all this in graphic design she he had to do all the work and hes been in business for 15 years and he has been around Leeds, Newcastle, Kendal(Cumbria) and Barcelona, He did a lot of work with the NHS adverting stuff like Alcohol abuse, bowel Cancer and other sources, He then talked about Art gets the recognition and design gets the money which i didn’t really understand which i thought it was one thing but guess not and he showed us a presentation which was okay, After he told us about all this he was telling us about how we have a great start to go into the graphic design industry which is nice to know but when i was listening i could stop thinking it would be so hard but then i thought the only reason why i did art was because of photography but then Ian said this girl he have employed just from college is into her photography but she been employed to be a graphic design and Ian said it was easy to learn and it made me excited for the future.

evaluation

Overall i think my final pictures turned out really good i like how i tried to make a theme because it would be easier to people to understand than doing different things and i wanted it to be themed on Alice in wonderland i think the changes i would make is the set because i really wanted a table but we had to go really far and i couldn’t carry and table and a chair but everything else was alright, i am very happy with the materials i used because i brought the art side into photography, The only thing i would adjust would be the research i would do because it was really hard because i picked some very weird things it was so hard to find picture of what i wanted to do but i found some which kinda were like the same. the colour scheme was very strong which i liked it all turned out the way i wanted it and it looked amazing because of the colour in the picture, when i started editing it, it was changing the colour and was making it look like the colours of Alice in the wonderland which made me really happy with the colour.

my influence was Tim Burton with alice in the wonderland because he has a very creepy side but the colour’s he use are very dark but bright in the same way and it made me want to us the colours in my theme of photography and theme it on Alice in the wonderland. The piece’s symbolize that even if it very dark and creepy it can still be beautiful in the way that everyone thinks of it in a different way. i Dont think i would make any alterations because i was happy the way it came out with the pictures so i don’t think i would, I honestly think my project don’t take long if anything i should of took time it because i finished my project on Thursday morning and just started to edit my photo’s by the end of the day and started blogging on Friday so i had loads of time with my project which is a shame because i never finish on the deadline i always finish before it which i like but i feel like i rush things.

Health and Safety i had to be careful of:

• Cause we had to walk up into the woods we had to be careful of rocks and things to trip over with.
• weather.
• wire’s in the studio room with my portrait picture.
• i also put make up on my friend Cara so i had to make sure it didn’t make rashes on her sink.

The techniques i used to make my artwork worked okay there was some issue with the camera with the aperture but i sorted it and that was the only thing.

feedback on my project:

Chelsea: out of all the photo’s i really liked the motion blur because its looks ghosts like and it was well taken.

Lesley: I really like Melissa’s photos, they’re all really creative in their own way.

the last 6 weeks have be incredibly hard and very stressful but i’ve really enjoyed it and it something i want to do when im older so it gave me some experience of what it’s going to be like and i really like the studio as well, I’ve learn’t so much and it been a pleasure knowing about my camera more and showing people i actually know how to use a camera, it hasn’t changed my personally but it has changed how i see things now and when i look at things im just like that could be a really good picture and i like how im like that so im not complying. My favorite workshop has to be the photography one because it what i want to do and i feel like i can actually prove im good at it and overall im really happy.

Final Project 5 Pictures (Motion Capture)

My next picture was motion capture and i had an idea of Cara running across a table but because we had to walk up loads of hills we couldn’t take the table up because it would of been really hard so i got her to throw plates in the air and this picture was just a tester but i actually really liked how it came out because it shows the dark side.

this is the picture i got the idea from it isnt the same photo but it was the only thing i could get my ideas from.

Final Project 5 Pictures (Motion Blur)

Last Thursday i went up into the wood at sandyland with Cara and we got my last photo’s up there and im really pleased with them, So after i did the landscape i started to do the motion blur it took a while to find the settings but i wrote it down because it was really hard to get in touch with college and i wanted to see if i could do it by myself and i finally got there. So i started with Cara standing up and motion to different places and because the woods was really dark i could hold it off for a long time because everything will blurr so i had to do about 3 secs but i got a really good picture and im really pleased with it!

I couldnt decide which picture to pick which i had two picture and i asked around to see which one is the best.

Because it looks more ghostly and it looks more creepy and it goes with the theme im going for.

Final Project 5 Pictures (Landscape)

Today Me and Cara went up into the woods in sandylands and started to set out my land of Alice in the wonderland and snow white, it took us a long time to set it up but we got there, I have been planning this for over a week and it have turned out very well. We had to be careful with what we took because of the weather and i didn’t want anything to mess it up, After it cleared up we went walking right up to sandylands woods.

I got most my picture up here, i got my motion capture and motion blur and something creative as i needed to for my creative one for the double exposure.
